Planning

The planning authority for Embsay with Eastby is Craven District Council. Copies of all applications (and plans) are sent directly to the Parish Clerk and routine, standard applications are then considered by the Clerk and Chairman of the Council under delegated powers. They determine those applications which may be especially complex or contentious and refer these to the full Council for consideration.

A similar procedure is in place for dealing with those applications which fall within the jurisdiction of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

While the Parish Council does not itself have the authority to make decisions on individual applications, it can make comments and observations on each application. These are then taken into consideration when Craven District Council makes their decisions. This is done either by their officers (if it is a minor matter) or by their Council (if a major matter).

Information about local planning applications can be viewed by visiting the Craven District Counci web site. In addition hard copies of the most recent planning applications are available for public viewing at the monthly Parish Council meeting.

In making their decisions, Craven District Council takes into consideration the following factors:

  • Planning policies as laid down in the local Plan
  • Other planning policies from county and Government
  • Recommendations of the Parikh Council
  • Letters of objection or support from the general public.
